Thanks for taking the time to be part of The Indie Scene. We’ve really enjoyed following your journey and are excited to spotlight your new single, “Wives Tale,” as well as your forthcoming album, Rock ‘N’ Roll Hit Parade, due out September 4.
Below are a few questions designed to go beyond the typical promotional interview. We’d love to hear about the inspiration behind the new music, your creative process, your artistic evolution, and what’s ahead as you prepare for the album release and upcoming tour dates. Feel free to answer each question in as much detail as you’d like—our goal is to give readers a genuine look into the person and songwriter behind the music.

The Indie Scene) “Wives Tale” is an intriguing title because it immediately sparks curiosity. What’s the story behind the song, and what moment or idea first inspired you to write it?
Atticus) I wanted to to hold a bit of mystery and inherent lore. In my head it’s the perspective of a man who lives in the woods telling a story of his travels.
The Indie Scene) You’ve said that melody usually comes before lyrics in your songwriting. How did “Wives Tale” evolve from its earliest musical idea into the finished recording, and were there any unexpected turns along the way?
Atticus) It has been around so long! We knew this was the time for it to be unleashed. We wrote it (my band and I) in early 2022 and it came together immediately. All of the lyrics were basically my first crack at it, which never happens. Lightning in a bottle, really.
The Indie Scene) Your music wears its influences proudly—from The Beatles and Oasis to Nirvana and Neil Young—but it never feels like imitation. How do you balance honoring your musical heroes while carving out a sound that’s unmistakably Atticus Roness?
Atticus) I try to take the ethos of what they do and maybe little bits and pieces and then let my intuition and musical psyche lead me the rest of the way. An impossible thing to explain, but a process I live for.
The Indie Scene) You’ve mentioned writing many of these new songs during a major transition in your life before getting sober. Looking back now, does “Wives Tale” take on a different meaning for you than it did when you first wrote it?
Atticus) This was written so long ago, it’s hard to say! But it was written separate from the crop of songs that are on the new record (this period you are referring to) so it really stands alone. It’s about nothing and everything all at once.
The Indie Scene) The title of your upcoming project, Rock ‘N’ Roll Hit Parade, suggests spectacle, nostalgia, and larger-than-life personalities. If listeners experience the album from start to finish, what journey do you hope they walk away having taken?
Atticus) I hope that people feel inspired and want to relisten. It’s my best work and if I can be the soundtrack for a few folk’s lives, then that’s all an artist can ask for.
The Indie Scene) Your live performances have developed a reputation for being electric. As these new songs make their way onto the stage, how are you approaching the live show differently than in previous tours, and what can fans expect from the upcoming dates?
Atticus) We are prepping hard for the upcoming tour! New songs, new lineup and matching outfits! All nuance aside, these songs really were meant to be played live and I can’t wait to see the way people resonate with them.
The Indie Scene) You’ve written well over a thousand songs throughout your life. When you look at “Wives Tale” and the rest of Rock ‘N’ Roll Hit Parade, what do you hear in these songs that tells you they’re coming from a more mature or more confident version of yourself?
Atticus) I think these songs are unapologetically me and that is a mature place for any artist to be.
